🔁 @racialequityinsights Happy Black History Month, y’all! 😊 As we celebrate the incredible contributions that Black folks have made throughout society in the US (and beyond), let’s make sure that we are acknowledging the full breadth of the Black community, including Black LGBTQ+ folks out there! 🖤 🌈 Don’t forget, if you ain’t pro-Black LGBTQ, pro-Black women, pro-Black disabled, pro-Black folks in the hood, pro-Black folks with disabilities, pro-Black folks in the suburbs, pro-Black folks without degrees, etc, YOU AIN’T PRO-BLACK. ✊🏿 Also, quick nuance/disclaimer: Marsha P. Johnson self-identified as a drag queen during her life. However, I have learned from trans/non-binary folks as well as through some of my own researching that Ms. Johnson likely would have identified as trans if that language and identification had been known during her life, and that she also used she/her pronouns. The “P” in her middle initial stood for “pay it no mind,” which was her response when asked about her gender (so creative and dope). 🙌🏿 FYI! #blackhistorymonth #blacklgbtq #marshapjohnson #bayardrustin #audrelorde #jamesbaldwin #stonewalluprising #powertothepeople
